The Budo Mastery

The Memories of Henry Ellis Sensie ae" 1957 - 2007

In the 50 last years I was the luckiest one not only to meet but to study with a lot of the big Masters of Budo that visited the United Kingdom and Europe. I would like to place my memories on the report in the hope that they are able a day is interest to others in the Martial Arts.

Kenshiro Abbe Sensei 1915 ae" 1985: I began my trip of Martial arts in 1956 to the Dojo of now famous Hut. I began with Judo under the instruction of Ken Williams Sensei. Abbe Sensei had arrived in the United Kingdom in 1955 to the invitation of the Corporation of Judo of London (LJS). It would become soon cynical with the LJS and joined of the forces with Matsutaro Otani Sensei that would take finally to the formation of the Counsel of British Judo (BJC) ae" the Counsel of Kendo of British (BKC)
The British Counsel of Aikido (FERRY). Williams Sensei was there with Abbe Sensie to the beginning very of this fascinating period in the history of British Martial Arts. The new association with Otani Sensie would do Abbe Sensei an uniform visitor to the Dojo of Hut. Which would be soon famous THE School of Abbe of Budo. I saw first Abbe Sensei when it attended a class to the Hut. I realized even on this first occasion that I was in the presence of someone very special. Abbe Sensei appeared be me an impressive man. I would obtain later for knowledge than sensei a lot of better and engages in some conversation although his English was very poor. A lot of persons claim to have been today friends of Abbe Sensei, I never met a person that was friend of Sensei, we were all the privileged students. I would begin soon Aikido and would see Sensei on the classes of Aikido and Judo. I became also an uniform one to Abbe Sensei own Dojo of Street of Sandwich in the Kings Crosses. London.
To this time Abbe Sensei was in his first one 40' s and always a force to be treated in randori or the competition. I was not at the LJS when the to follow arrived, Sensei thought that it did not receive the respect because of a man of his alignment and his stature, it aligned all the 31 degrees of Dan of Judo and walked alongside the line and said them individually technical which it would use on them and if it would be just or left transmitted, it did exactly that, It brought down the body To Clothe and each to beat and every degree of Dan.
A day when we them students were all in the vestiaire of dojo and Abbe Sensei changed also, it was held there speaking with the students while stripped to the size, although in his 40' s that it appeared very capable.

All the young guys were around him also very capable with the big shoulders with the normal reduction to the size, not if with Abbe Sensei, it seemed there to have a vertical line of its hips to its shoulders, his body was almost the can formed as a fridge and there was the very powerful appearance of a man.

I became later the secretary of direction to Williams Sensei and I would be asked to visit the house of Otani in the Road of Stuart
Acton, London, where Abbe Sensei had its own pieces. My visits would be for the various reasons and sometimes to take Sensei to the airport or a seminary. Derek Eastman and I became uniform visitors as us had become good friends with Tomio Otani Sensei. It was on one of these visits that I banged on the door of Sensei and it called me to enter, as I entered I was astonished to see several wild birds in the piece, there were Pigeons ae" the Sparrows ae" a Blackbird and a Robin, there were more birds out on the window edge, the birds seemed totally comfortable and even do not have Summer disturbed by my entry, of ordinary one With the wild birds the noise or the movement more insignificant and they went, I always liked the that the wild birds and was lucky to see this on several occasions.

On another occasion when I went to see Abbe Sensei, as I entered his piece it looked at The World Championship Grillon, although I always was athlete and sports crazy, I really hated the Grillon, I rather would look at growing grass. I more better was not pleased to see than the man than I admired as much of looking at the Grillon, I politely asked "Sensei, you like the grillon? "It replied "NO! ! STUPID GAME!! I look at everyday to try to understand the stupid game, never to understand, they call the World Championship, not world-wide, only the countries that were colonized by the British Empire "ae¦ae¦. Very deepae¦ae¦ae¦ae¦

Kenshiro Abbe Sensie was eighth Dan Judo ae" sixth Dan Kendo ae" sixth Dan Aikido ae" sixth Dan Kyudo ae" sixth Dan Karate.
To see that Abbe Sensei shows any of the aforementioned arts always was a big experience. There is an incident that I will never forget, It has intervened to the Championships of BJC to the Acton of city Hall, London in the first 1960, first first Abbe Sensei and Tomio Otani the BKC the National Trainer is lit the step to show the sword technique, Derek Eastman and I sat in the front row as the edpedistes were done facing, after some technical Abbe Sensei did a cut Flashing to Tomio The head, I swear that Tomio never flashed as I and the audience thought that Sensei had done a fatal error as the blade appeared to do the contact with the forehead of Tomio, Tomio never backed up as a big piece of his fringes thick black fell to the floor. Of return in the vestiaire I asked had him it was afraid, it replied "Why has I am afraid, I am with my professor aeoeae¦ae¦ae¦. That probably is one of the most of the stunning things that I never observed in the Martial Arts.
Kenshiro Abbe Sensei as I declared was previously a powerful and impressive man the presence and the appearance on and tatami (the rug). I assure you that it was far more impressive to be on the end of reception of his technique, you always knew that with any technique that you were totally under the check of Sensei of Abbe nevertheless it seemed to do it so easily. The Judo of Sensei of Abbe was become now legendary, his Aikido was very stretched and direct, the Judoka that does Aikido as to use the body contact in their technique, Abbe Sensei never did any of the movements flowing wide that we see in modern Aikido. I never tested that feels total strength with no other professor.

Tadashi Abe Sensei. 1926 ae" 1984..
Tadashi Abe Sensei was a small totally positive man. We hear time to time that a Japanese professor should have been born in the era of Samouraa¯, If I never met such a man that it was Abe Sensei. During the Second World War it completed the training to pilot one one torpedoes suicide of man, before it has was called to die for his country that the war finished, IT WAS something that it would regret for all his life, it felt that it had been cheated of his fate. It was a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba of the 1940 and an exposing big one of Traditional Aikido. After several years in France it returned to Japan. And in 1967 visited the AikiKai Hombu dojo, it was disturbed very to the aikido that it observed is taught now there. It looked at the class a little before of getting up and draw the attention to itself, when it had every attention of a, it spoke out strong "I am sorry with all the ladies presents, this is not Aikido that this is for the women "it placed then his Diploma of Aikido of Hombu on the rug and took out. Abe Sensei said that to fight a man with just the fists is not any true challenge to all, but a fight with your nude hands against a man with a knife was a true challenge, I understand that it carried often a knife and when challenged it would offer this to his opponent that says "pleased this is for you ".

Matsutaro Otani Sensie. 1901 ae" 1977 (?)
I did not study with Otani Sensei although I met and spoke with him a lot time while visiting Abbe Sensei or his Tomio of son. Sensei was a very small man of almost 5 pi 2INS that had left Japan that I believe the age of 20 years. I am said that someone insulted his father and it had challenged the man with a sword, his father did not appreciate this and Sensei had to leave the house a little. It brought up a boat that goes "anywhere "and worked his manner around the world until it attained Great Britain. It had studied martial arts and met with the professor Yukio Tani celebrates of this point it takes a life of Budo. It was a seventh Dan in Judo and it would take does not import that including the wrestlers, on the ground it was impossible to hold it once, his opponent would think that it had a taken one and the next Sensei of thing does ` of black box of ` of under him and the stifles out. While most of the Japanese would seem to have an austere appearance you that defends to obtain close to them, not if with Otani Sensei, it always seemed happy with a ready and comfortable mouse itself and all around him. It affectionately was known by more as "Smiler "with my education than I could not come to call it that. I was asked by Abbe Sensei to show Aikido to the National Championships of BJC to the London of place of Grove of Files BBC. I was the slide expectation to be passed to see the step with Derek Eastman, just some yards far of me were Otani Sensei and the then Japanese Ambassadto the United Kingdom, the two in the conversation, while they spoke with a Judoka walked the passed and called for Otani Sensei "good day Smiler "and walked in the vestiaires, I must be honest and admits that I was furious to this flagrant billposting of irreverence In front of The ambassador. I followed the Judoka that I did not know in the vestiaire, I said it that I thought about his irreverence, it in the bend was very explicit in its think about me.

I gave him a small one slaps that finished unfortunately his participation in the event. I in the bend took my just anger some minutes later on the step where Derek and I gave a demonstration of Aikido very lasts. The lady Baden Powell that sat in the front row was heard to say to Abbe Sensei that our demonstration was the demonstration more terrible of violence than she had never observed.
On the other hand the Japanese Ambassador brought up me and said that it was the better billposting of Aikido than it had never seen.

Tomio Otani Sensei: 1939 - 1991 National Trainers to the Counsel of Kendo of British: was completely a character and a good business to be with. I always remember me of as traveled us with Tomio on the London under earth between Acton and Abbe Sensei dojo in the Street of Sandwich, the Kings Cross, as the train clinked and rolled by the tunnels that we all would compete to see that could keep their balance the a long time before to seize itself security girths. Tomio always wonae¦. Derek and I studied Kendo with Tomio and it in the bend would study Aikido, to my knowledge Tomio never took a class in Aikido. I am astonished when I see that the people that claim to have been classified in Aikido by Tomio Otani?? . Derek Eastman and I would go to the classes of Kendo of Tomio in Acton, Tomio was so quickly that when we had the competition, it would hit you several times with the shinai while you thought about to hit him. A Derek in the evening had serious practice with Tomio, it was very determined to beat
Him just the one time, Derek carried the held adorns bullets of full Kendo, Tomio hit Derek on the head with a shinai (the sword in bamboo) to Shomen (the head center) Derek collapsed just and was out for the account. Derek said when it had resumed that it felt as if it did not carry its Men (the head guard) it said as as it felt as if it had been clubbed, I agreed with Derek that we never realized only you could do can go out it with a Shinai, well his true, Derek felt it and I saw the arrival.

The Masahilo Mikoto Nakazono Sensei:1918-1994. eighth Dan Aikido. Sixth Dan Judo. Sixth Dan Kendo.
Nakazono Sensei was sent to Europe by OSensei Morihei Ueshiba in 1962 It was the European and representing it AikiKai of African of the north. Sensei came to the United Kingdom to the invitation of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. Nakazono Sensei was a very hard and exacting professor, it was to become one of the preferred of all the professors Japanese by all the degrees of Dan of Hut, it always is remembered of with today of respect and affection. Nakazono Sensei did his first visit to the United Kingdom and the Dojo of Hut in 1963. We all were counseled that Abbe Sensei had asked Nakazono Sensei to reclassify all the 8 degrees of Dan of Hut to meet with the modern norms of day of the Hombu QG.

Apreds to classify it a second Dan was demoted to first Dan, Sensei said him "the Necessary sale your gi while the prices are high "not of could understand us the reason for this as it was one of the better degrees of Dan to the Hut, it became very cynical and left after some months, maybe the reason was that it was too young?. Sensei said that all could go to the Aikikai and the practice on the equal terms with the better there.
As obtained us for knowledge Sensei better I asked sensei if I was at aske, it would give me a letter to visit the Hombu Dojo? It looked at me and asked "Why ", I thought that my request did not need an explanation, therefore I tried to say that I would like to study there. Nakazono Sensei said "there is not good professors left for the Hombu Dojo, they all teach in the West".
Nakazono Sensei attended the University of summer of Farm of Farm 1963. I thought induced us strong to the Dojo of Hut, IT WAS nothing compared to that we crossed with Nakazono Sensie. In a manner the problems were the ours, we taught and induced hard, Abbe Sensei had not said us to ` goes ` for sensei as that would show irreverence. Sensei did not see that it likes that to all, his impression was that we were ` that any ` trying him. Abbe Sensie allowed this to continue for a complete week before explaining to Nakazono Sensei. I am sure that from that time it had a lot of respects for us. A day that I was invited to hit sensei, I thought I cleverly had pulled my poinason as I did not want to injure it, it was very upset, I think that it had had now enough, it said me to hit it 100%, I did, I finished with my head on the fireplace of an old big English fireplace with my gi covered in the suie, to flow the other degrees of Found Dan This funny one more.

Masahilo Nakazono Sensei.
There is so many histories Nakazono Sensei a lot of which I said in the other items. The only thing that we learned quicly MEME was that it was a master more powerful and gifted of Aikido. In the Dojo of Hut there were a lot of hard guys that were Videurs or the merchants of the market. To the University of summer of Farm of Farm there was a guy in particular that was not so sure of the true strength of Sensie, his name was Morris. Down below that in the pub that the night it turned to Big Tony more big and stronger guy on the course and was said "Tony, I think that you submit me all of the respect instead of the strength of the technique, I do not believe that it could take you Tony if you did not want to go? "Tony laughed at Morris and said "the Look here Morris! I know that I feel and I am not rather stupid to try to withstand Sensei Nakazono, NOW! if you want to try? bothers you not then to try "..
The Nakazono of next day morning taught and it looked for a big guy, for although to reason it neglected big Tony and chosen on Morris, everyone was conscious sensations of Morris as Nakazono Sensei took it in Sankyo, true to his own Morris of stupidity withstood totally and among the cry of Morris was the sound of all the bones in his right breaks, it did not have No sympathy for Morris as It was taken to the hospital. It was also the end of the course for Morris. I always said that the better professors of Aikido come from a bottom of Judo as Kenshiro Abbe did, Nakazono sensei was a sixth Judo Dan of the Kodokan.

Masamichi Noro Sensei
Noro Sensei visited the United Kingdom in 1964 as a fifth Dan. It was young and very nice with very dynamics flows Aikido, we had never seen this type of Aikido with the big circular movement. This was very different of what we had seen with the oldest professors. Noro Sensei was to do several visits to the United Kingdom and we in the bend visited his dojo to Paris, where Derek Eastman was to receive his second Dan of Noro Sensei in 1964 on the one such visits. Noro Sensei was not as inaccessible as a lot of the oldest professors and the sense of humor had. We had now Noro and Nakazono visiting the Hut to the separated times, Nakazono Sensei would teach us his technique and Noro would teach his style, as every the one they visited the two requests the same question "Why are doing you this manner!! ! "I did not teach you this ", we did not have the one courage to say that we did the other trains professors. I was on the step in 1963 To The Lobby of Royal Albert with Noro and Nakazono Sensei, Nakazono Sensei used Noro in a knife assault, as it paralyzed Noro and took the knife of him and student the knife above his body as if to finish his opponent of, for some reason this Noro done very upset and said that it was bad to do this to a high other Degree, It must is said that Nakazono was the a lot of ained to Noro Sensei. I liked that Noro Sensei but found it a lot difficult one to change to such flowing movement, I preferred a lot the style of Abbe Sensei and of Nakazono Sensei. While the style of Noro was very pleasant to look at, I found the technique of Abbe and Nakazono to be effective on the rug and you knew that it would be so effective in the street, his was something that I was never really sure of with the flowing style of Noro Sensei.
~~~~~~~~
Mutsusuke Harada Sensei
I met first Harada Sensei when it arrived to the Dojo of Hut with Kenshiro Abbe Sensie in 1963.
It was consented that it could begin right away courses of karate to the Dojo of Hut. At first the classes were small if Derek Eastman and I participated training. Harada liked also the Aikido as it saw to the Hut dojo and would add some movements of Aikido to his Karate. Harada Sensei had been classified to fifth Dan in 1957 by the big professor Ginshin Funakoshi Sensei. 50 years later it always is fifth Dan, declaring that any degree above fifth Dan is ` ` totally absurd. In a time when the degrees in the Martial Arts are devaluated this was a refreshing declaration to Henry Ellis and to Derek Eastman that agreed with this line of thought and they did the highest possible degree in the fifth ESTER Dan. I knew Harada Sensei continually of 1963 and met with him again recently to the TK Chiba 40 Celebrations in October 2006 where we were the two guests of Chiba Sensei to the event dinner.
O'clock Kobayashi Sensei: Osaka Hombu.
I have a copy of a sharp letter to Kenshiro Abbe Sensei by Kisshomaru Ueshiba in 1966 counselors him of the conclusions of a visit by the representative of official Hombu for the United Kingdom and of Europe M O'CLOCK Kobayashi of the Osaka Hombu. The Aikikai was astonished to the quick growth of Aikido in the West. On his turn Koybayashi Sensei had visited the Dojo of Hut with Abbe Sensei.
We had never met the man before and as it walked on the tatami it never smiled or gave the indication more insignificant than it was pleased to be there. It seemed to sit there pierreux done facing for what seemed to be then a life, as I sat there and aged with the legs that belonged now elsewhere, Koybayashi spoke, IT WAS difficult to understand and to be honest that I think not really that we were a lot wiser ones for the visit. It looked at to be a very hard man. It was held now and indicated for one of the degrees of Dan of Hut to attack it with a bokken, to the Hut the one would never attack the half chaleureuxment, and with the look of this Sensei it should be positive. I am sure that it did not foresee a such strong assault and it was hit on the head, while most of the men would have fallen to the rug, not if with Kobayashi Sensei, it appeared upset and I can assure the reader that from now on it never has comis another error. We never saw it againae¦ae¦ae¦ae¦ae¦ae¦
Haku Michigami Sensei ninth Dan Judoka born 1912
Michigami Sensei visited the University of summer of Farm of Farm in around of 1963 and participated in the BJC the National Championships to the Lobby of Royal Albert to London. It was friend of Abbe Sensei and had induced also to the Transported University. It spent most of his educational career in Bordeaux France. It induced the biggest Judoka Anton Geesink never of the west that continued to win the gives an award to of now in the 1964 Olympic Games to Japan. I met this legendary Judoka but did not study with him. It seemed to be a good friend to Abbe Sensei as they spoke, I am sure that they talked about the `old days` just as all let us do.
The Magazine of New ones of judo 1964 evaluate 2/6 p (. 32P)
The photo on the front cover of the magazine is of all the Japanese Masters that participated in the BJC the National Championships 1963 to the Lobby of Royal Albert. London. Left for the right: M Noro ae" O'CLOCK Michigami ae" K Abbe ae" M Harada ae" M Nakazono.
The meeting M Otani Sensei. I was uke to at once M Nakazono Sensei and M Noro Sensei on one of the bigger days in my career of martial arst. I wrote of all these professors in this item. This is a rare photo to see Japanese so many professors together to a time.
~~~~~~~~~~

Shohei Hamano Sensei ninth Dan Kodokan Judo
I saw Hamano Sensie when it visited the University of summer of Farm of Farm. It had classified Abbe Sensei to 3 rd Dan
So many years there is. It was superior to Abbe Sensei in the age and to the degree and influence, nevertheless we all were astonished how it seemed to treat Abbe Sensei as if it was the most superior one. I have little to write to see this big Judoka but it was a pleasure to see it and Abbe Sensei together. We all had been informed that this big professor would arrive on this special day.

Person had never met a ninth Dan before. I am not sure that we foresaw really, although it was created it a lot of agitations through the camp of summer. There was a strange incident during the class that in the morning with Nakazono Sensei. As Nakazono Sensei taught someone continued to sprout their head by the door and in a noisy excited murmur would call for the class "It is just arrival "and some minutes later the door would open and we would obtain another updated noisy whispered. Nakazono Sensei obtained a little shook hereby and had his back to the door when it openend and the whisperer called that they came just in the building. Nakazono Sensei did not look at in round to this last one updated. It was held always with his back to the door when in Kenshiro Abbe Sensei walked and Shohei Hamano Sensei. Nakazono Sensei did not look at in round right away, we were attempted to say it all that had walked just in, we decided to remain mute. It seemed now long such a time since Abbe Sensei walked in, nevertheless I am sure it is only seconds when Nakazono Sensei applauded and turned, kneel, it inclined himself then. It appeared to incline itself only to Abbe Sensei, maybe we all were mistaken.

TK Chiba Shihan.
I informed the history of the arrival in 1966 of Chiba Sensei to the United Kingdom in several items to date. I will do to the profit of this item adds the more pertinent points. Kenshiro Abbe Sensei had returned to Japan for the 1964 Olympic Games where his good friend Michigami Sensei would win truck gold with his star his student Anton Geesink. Abbe Sensei seized the occasion to visit OSensei Morihei Ueshiba where it discussed the possibility of OSensei sending a representative of permanent Aikikai to the United Kingdom, to which they consented. Unfortunately this had never been discussed with the Ken Williams Sensei and the degrees of Dan to the Dojo of Hut. Williams Sensei was the first student of Aikido for Kenshiro Abbe Sensei and the first one in the United Kingdom. It had worked hard of this time to construct absolutely Aikido nothing to that it had become now about ten years later. Now Abbe Sensei counsels Sensei to William that a young professor was on his manner of the Hombu to check Aikido in the United Kingdom. This position was a shock to K Williams and the degrees of Dan of Hut. Now, it was a thing to have different Japanese professors visit, but to have it a based of a permanent manner in the United Kingdom was other something.

The one can imagine itself only the position to the Dojo of Hut as Abbe Sensei arrived with Chiba Sensei that was then a fifth Dan. If we did not look at and welcomed a professor that visits, we looked at the one that was here to remain, not only to remain but to check of the whole FERRY United Kingdom Aikido. This position was not to do it Chiba Sensie, I am sure that it did not have idea which awaited him. It did not receive a warm welcome, simply a reaction is mixed of all interested. To be Sensei Williams honest that tried to take advantage to the maximum of this position. Unfortunately it and Chiba Sensei did not agree. It was evident that this was never going to resolve. Kenshiro Abbe gave the check of FERRY to Chiba Sensei. It was also a time of undecided loyalties in British Aikido as the instructors around the United Kingdom decided which manner to ukemi, someone were loyal to Williams of Ken and someone wanted an uniform Japanese professor. I left later the Dojo of Hut and Chiba Sensie joined

I was his assistance and we did a BBC transmission radio world-wide together for 30 minutes. We did later a demonstration on the TV of Grenade. It was a new adventure for me. I had left the Dojo of Hut as I was dissatisfied with recent events that I agreed not with, the principal problem was to distribute it degrees of Dan of honory, these were distributed as there were only eight degrees of Dan of Akido in the whole United Kingdom and all were in the Dojo of Hut. It was decided (not by me) probably between K Williams and Abbe Sensei that we needed a degree of Dan in the central sectors of the United Kingdom, I would agree with that. Aikido had progressed because of the good level of the degrees of Dan of Hut, I tried to explain to Sensei Williams that if we had people that were not norm of the degrees of Dan of Hut it would do a mockery of Aikido.
~~~~~~~~~~
Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan:
I met first Tamura Sensei when it visited the Dojo of Hut in the mi-60ae™s. It was completely a stunning aikidoist with a very pleasant nature. I never saw the hard side to him as I had seen in other so many professors. His Aikido was very strong but his movement was the most impressive one. 9
When it did Suwariwaza (Kneeling the technique) it could move himself quicker on its knees than I can on my feet. A day apreds Suwariwaza that I asked Tamura Sensei "Sensei can I raise the bottom of your hakama? "It gave me a very mocking look and asked "Why! "I replied "I never saw that does not import that moves me as you Sensie on their knees, I am sure that you have wheels under your hakama "it laughed and calm showed fortunately that there was not wheel.
Left: Tamura Sensei &the amplifier; Ichimura Sensei 1968. I took them the two on a turn of London on a wet day with them carries just a pair of zori.
I induced with Tamura Sensei several times, but was it better to come when it and Ichimura Sensei attended the University of summer of Bracknell in 1968. This event was organized by TK Chiba Shihan. This was a fantastic week with the Sensei Chiba following ae" Tamura ae" Ichimura ae" Tada. I had all these professors to my house and it was the summer and the time was hot. My woman had prepared a meal for them all and instead of the meeting to the table they went outside and sit on the chatting front lawn and eat, my neighbors were fascinated to see all these Japanese sirs that asseyent in a circle in front of my house.
1
O'clock Tada Sensei:
Tada Sensei was a professor of Karate very high representative before joining OSensei to the Hombu Dojo. Personally I saw and felt me that the additional force in his technique. As the superior Akidoist of United Kingdom to the University of summer of Bracknell I would be often uke to him, in the adjacent photo I am sure that it cleans the tatami with me. Tada Sensei was a little older than the other professors and more serious, while the others was young and did even the Chiba of serious ordinary one
Sensei seems almost jovial. Tada Sensei was the representative of Hombu for Italy. Apreds the week to Bracknell I never met it again.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Tochikazu Ichimura Sensei: born 1941: See also the photo above with Tamura Sensei.
I met Ichimura Sensei to the University of summer of Bracknell, we were very close in the age, I was a second Dan at that very moment.
Ichimura was a fourth Dan. I am uncertain motives of Sensei of Chiba but it would do to resolve me with Isshamura Sensei, I think that it wanted to see his student and his assistance against a young Japanese professor. I thought that I would be hammered by this fourth young Dan. I believe that I truly held my clean one and I did not feel of the all introduces by these young Japanese. I think that it knew what continued, we had a good sensation of this for the remainder of the course.
~~~~~~~~~
Ken Williams Sensei: The first student of United Kingdom for Aikido.
Williams Sensei was the first student of Aikido of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei in 1955. It became later the National Trainer for Aikido and the FERRY. It was a third Dan in Judo and it was well known on the circuit of Judo, this would be important in the future promotion of Aikido. I see often where the people attempt to divide Aikido and the Judo. It should be noted that Williams Sensei was itself also Judoka, and a lot of the first ones convert were the degrees of Dan in the Judo. I cannot imagine me does not import that of other other that Williams Sensei one this time that could have taken the challenge and maintained the develops the one train of vapor that was Aikido through the country. His progress of nothing was completely dramatic and Aikido always will have a lot to K Williams Sensei. Sadly we live in an age where our history of Aikido trust and the alignment are not appreciated. So maybe while informing these events there can be a future generation this will.
Williams Sensei had as I said before a very natural talent for Aikido and I would say that it was the inspiration that did the Dojo of Hut s'internationalement itself famous.
To the grandiose degree of third kyu I became the assistance to Williams Sensei, IT WAS hard but I progressed very quickly. There is no doubt that these early years of Aikido to the Dojo of Hut were very special, and calm are.
There is only four of the original degrees of always teaching Dan ae" K Williams ae" O'CLOCK Encourages ae" O'CLOCK Ellis ae" D Eastman. Sadly the time left his track on a lot of the other professors.
Sensei of Wood of `Bill` of William
This item informed and my memories would not be complete without adding a credit Bill Drinks well deserved Sensei. The bill was a small man in the stature, but a giant of British Martial Arts. I believe, and declared in the other items that Bill Drinks had probably more influence on the development of Martial Arts in the United Kingdom than no English other.
When Bill met Abbe Sensei it already was a third Dan with the LJS and a Judo Defends. It would leave the LJS and joined with Abbe Sensei. It became the secretary of the BJC ae" BKC ae" FERRY ae" BKC. These organizations to a point attained about 35,000 worlds of wide members with his direction. It was the first student of classified Kendo of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei with the certificate numbers one and Tomio Otani number two. This photo in 2003 spectacles Bill centers with Derek Eastman on his left and Henry Ellis on his right. I saw Bill again to the Kenshiro Abbe Celebration Commemorative in the month of May of 2005 where it did a supreme effort despite his serious disease to be there to pay its respects to his professor. Sadly this was the last time I would see my old friend as it passed far just some months later. It will never be forgotten.
Jiro Nakazono Sensei
It was a big pleasures and a personal honors for me to teach next to Jiro Nakazono Sensei the son of an of my most of the respected professors the big Masahilo Nakazono 45 preceding years. We the two were at the celebration the Commemorative event in Neath country of Wales "Masahilo Nakazono the commemorative Monument Aikido Evednement ". I spent some quality time with Jiro Nakazono where we talked about his father and his influence on Aikido in Europe and in particular the United Kingdom
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rotten Phong Sensei
I also was privileged to teach next to Phong Sensei to the "Masahilo Nakazono the commemorative Monument Aikido Evednement ". Phong Sensii had traveled California WORE to attend this event to the memory of his professor. I found Phong Sensei to be a man more remarkable. His personal history with his impeccable alignment does a wish they could pass a lot of times with him listening just the histories that it must say. His Aikido is very traditional and powerful.

Henry Ellis Sensei:
Henry Ellis began Judo in 1956. In 1957 after seeing that Kenshiro Abbe shows Aikido with Williams Sensei it joined the small class of Aikido, it always continued with its classes of Judo for another year before deciding to concentrate completely on Aikido. It became the first assistance of K Williams Sensei and it was also a direct student of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei. After having left the Hut and joining with TK Chiba Shihan it was to become the assistance to Chiba Sensei of 1967 ae" 1970.

The Schools of Ellis of Traditional Aikido (ESTER) officially was formed in 1962 by Derek Eastman Sensei that asked me if it could name the organization in my name, I consented and joined efficiently my own organization. the fact one of the first organizations of Aikido in the United Kingdom. The ESTER was members of the members of MAC and founder of the Counsel of Aikido of British (BAB). With the other associations of member it was hoped to create an organization crisis for the members of the community of Aikido of United Kingdom. In 2000 the ESTER decided that the BAB was not capable for the goal and the ESTER resigned.

The ESTER is a small organization, not by the circumstance but to design. The ESTER has a small group of dojo in the United Kingdom with dojo in the WORE. The dojo is localized in Paved Texas and New Alamogordo Mexico.
The reminders of Ellis of Henry are invited to a seminary that it accepted. It was invited to sit on the classifying panel, it declined. As it looked at it saw more people is classified to the degree of Dan in a day than it and Derek Eastman Sensei had classified in the 50 last years.

Henry Ellis and Derek Eastman classified only 14 people to the degree of Dan. They are very trusted the loyalty of their degrees of Dan, they never had a leaf of degree of Dan or the rupture of the ESTER since it was
Formed in 1962. This is the intention of the ESTER to continue to teach and to preserve the true traditional Aikido as taught by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei of its origins in the United Kingdom.
